The World’s Best Egg Nog Recipe

by Justin D'Olier on December 23, 2010 | Comments Off on The World’s Best Egg Nog Recipe |

Sue Williamson makes the World’s best egg nog. This is a scientific fact. It is rich and creamy with a balanced nog flavor that is powerful, yet not overwhelming. The Holiday Season does not official start until I’ve had my first glass. After years of lusting over glasses of spicy, creamy ambrosia I finally broke […]

The best cocktail I’ve ever discovered at a dog park

by Justin D'Olier on December 20, 2010 | Comments Off on The best cocktail I’ve ever discovered at a dog park |

I discovered my new favorite drink at the KCC dog park. Well, technically, The Wine Pixie encountered the drink there and shared it with me when she returned home, however, the origins of the beverage – at least, our family’s introduction to it – trace their origins to the KCC canine meeting grounds. Typically, The […]

Mommy Needs A Cocktail: I’ll Take A Day Re-do Please…

Disclaimer:  Neither Elton nor myself is a huge IPA fan.  In fact, you might say that we are really, really anti-IPA’s.  But I continue to buy them, in the misguided belief that I really do love them.  But I don’t.  We don’t.  Um…please keep that in mind when reading this review. My head is pounding, […]

Wine 101: Terroir (or: This Was Fresh Ground This Morning!)

by Elton Nichols on December 16, 2010 | (1) Comment |

If you want an easy way to sound like a seasoned wine veteran, casually mention “terroir”. It’s a simple and integral, yet often overlooked, aspect of wine making that will score you instant points with wine professionals and make hot girls swoon over your sexy wine skills (though more the former than the latter). Terroir […]

by Victoria D'Olier on December 15, 2010 | Comments Off on The Best of the Worst: Part 2 (Xplorador) |

Ugh.  Things have gone downhill.  For those of you who following my bargain bin wine experiment, this was the bottom of the barrel. For those of you who are just checking out this mini-series, here’s the scoop: I’ve got great taste but a non-existent income therefore I strive to find great bargains and delicious buys […]

The Sophia Loren of Sake

by Jed Gushman on December 14, 2010 | Comments Off on The Sophia Loren of Sake |

In my dreams, Hunter S. Thompson is my pharmacist and my kitchen faucet dispenses an endless stream of crisp, cold Kubota Manju Sake. Don’t get me wrong, my reality isn’t bad. Rush Limbaugh sends me his extras, I’m lucky enough to live in Hawaii and I just opened a bottle of 25th Anniversary Kubota Ginjo […]

The Best of the Worst: Part 1 (Lindemans Cawarra)

by Victoria D'Olier on December 13, 2010 | (9) Comments |

Desperate times call for desperate measures so I finally did it, I broke down and gave the sampler pack of 1.5 liter bottles of wine at Costco a test drive.  Curiosity killed the cat and this swill may very well be my undoing but, who knows, perhaps an extremely budget-friendly diamond in the rough will […]

Drink with Aloha TV #7: How to properly taste spirits

by Justin D'Olier on December 10, 2010 | (2) Comments |

I took a break from my shower to give a quick lesson on the proper method of tasting spirits. Drink well, drink often, and always, drink with aloha (especially when drinking in the shower).
